Arrecife Eyes Costa de Musicas Sponsorship
The annual free music festival Costa de Musicas looks likely to get funding for 2012 from the Ayuntamiento of Arrecife. This three day music festival ran into sponsorship difficulties last year as a result of the economic crisis. But now looks likely to be resurrected in the capital city in September 2012.
The councilor for culture in Arrecife, Eva de Anta, is currently in discussion with the event organizers about possible funding for the event next September. With the likely result that the location of the festival will be changed to Arrecife.
In the last few years the event has taken place in Costa Teguise, to the consternation of some residents of the Playa Bastian residential complex, as the main stage was situated only a few metres from these frontline properties.
The Costa de Musicas took place in Costa Teguise, it was the Ayuntamiento of Teguise who originally provided the main sponsorship of the event, to the tune of approximately 80,000 Euros. The effects of the financial crisis eventually meant that the festival was cancelled in 2010 and has not succeeded in gaining a new sponsor for this year.
Due to the festival's immense popularity with young residents of the island and with visitors from mainland Spain, however, Eva de Anta considers it a worthy candidate for possible future funding from the Ayuntamiento of Arrecife. In previous years, headline acts such as the James Taylor Quartet have appeared, alongside numerous local and national bands.
