Skyband Concert at Caleta de Famara
The annual fiesta of the Sacred Heart of Maria in Caleta de Famara runs until 28th August and on Wednesday Skyband, an all girl group from Venezuela, will be playing live and for free at the harbour as part of the celebrations.
Skyband, as the Venezuelan super girl group is known, play a variety of Latin rhythms including Cuban dance music, salsa, merengue, vallenato and tex-mex sounds. They hail from the town of Maracay, which is close to Caracas, the Venezuelan capital.
The band was formed in 1993 under the auspices of a music teacher at the Paul IV Diocesan Institute and eventually grew to be a nine-piece group, with each of the girls learning to play a musical instrument.
In their native Venezuela the band has had a great deal of success, releasing numerous songs over the last few years and making a variety of appearances on television. The band has cultivated a deliberately sexy image, with several group members donning hotpants, fishnet stockings and high heels for their stage performances.
Skyband are appearing at the Muelle in Caleta de Famara on Wednesday night, 24th August, from 22.00 onwards and the event is free to attend.
