New Eighth Island Challenge
A new sporting event is set to be launched next year called the ‘Eighth Island Challenge’ which will be taking place on the small neighbouring island of La Graciosa. With the first edition of this event taking place on the 18th and 19th February 2012.
The first day’s competition will involve a cross sprint around the circumference of La Graciosa. The second day will consist of a mountain trail route covering 31 kilometres of more challenging terrain on the island.
This latest addition to the sporting calendar for Lanzarote is being marketed as a competition of adventure and resistance, with particular appeal to those sports enthusiasts who like to train in a more natural environment.
Organised by the Island Sports Service at the Cabildo of Lanzarote it will also form a unique promotional tool for the Natural Park of the Chinijo Archipelago, which is the largest marine reserve in Europe.
The winner of the event will be the participant with the fastest time in both the cross sprint and the mountain trail taken together. However, those who wish to only take part in one aspect of the competition will be able to do so as well.
