Gifts of the Sea Exhibition in Tias

An exhibition using items reclaimed from the sea was inaugurated this weekend at the Ermita de San Antonio in Tias. Featuring the work of two German artists who are resident on Lanzarote, it illustrates the wide range of objects brought in by the tide on a regular basis.

Working under the title of ‘Regalos de Mar’ or ‘Gifts from the Sea’, the two artists, Peter Ostermeyer and Dieter Noss have created a number of sculptural pieces and unusual drawings of the objects they have found around Lanzarote’s coastline. This use of reclaimed items follows in the tradition started by Manrique, of creating sculptural pieces from disused materials, such as the old water tanks which form the basis of the Monumento al Campesino, which depicts a farmer and his animals.

The exhibition runs until 4th February and the gallery at the Ermita de San Antonio is open on Monday to Friday from 17.00 to 20.00 and from 10.00 until 14.00 on Saturdays. Entrance is free.
