This Friday 6th April the jazz singer and songwriter Chiqui Pérez will be performing at the Krazy Lounge in Costa Teguise. Born in Tenerife, Chiqui has developed her musical career by training in Barcelona, where she also regularly performs live.

With five albums already under her belt, her latest release is Sin Red (Without Network) and features tracks such as Mas CarasQue Pessoa. Chiqui Pérez follows the tradition of female jazz singers and in previous albums has paid homage to a wide range of artists, including Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone amongst others.

After spending several years in Barcelona, when she also founded a vocal quartet called Baobab, Pérez went on to win first prize at the Jazz Festival of Getxo. Upon her return to Tenerife in the early 1990´s, she also won the first prize at the VI Certamen de Jazz. Since then, the singer has worked in collaboration with several musicians to produce her own records, with Augusto Baez on piano, Jose Carlos Machado on bass and Churchi Mendez on drums.

And whilst her music draws inspiration from the jazz singers of an earlier age, her sound also combines elements of funk and blues as well as more contemporary pop, giving it a much wider appeal. Her performance at the Krazy Lounge is free of charge and starts at 20.00. The Krazy Lounge is located on the seafront promenade in Costa Teguise close to Playa Cucharas.
