More Classics at the Cueva de los Verdes
Head for the atmospheric surroundings of the Cueva de los Verdes in the north of the island tonight to welcome in the New Year with a concert from the Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote, who will be performing from 20.00.
The Cueva de los Verdes once provided islanders with sanctuary from pirate raids and incursions but these days this cave system, part of the Atlántida volcanic tunnel which also provides the backdrop for the Jameos del Agua, also doubles up as an impressive concert hall, boasting amazing natural acoustics.
Visitors to the island can enjoy this audio experience for themselves tonight as Lanzarote’s Classical Orchestra stage a lyrical extravaganza showcasing the vocal talents of the tenors Juanma and Leo Garica who will be ably supported by sopranos Beni Ferrer, Xerach Alonso and Sheyla Rizo – with accomplished pianist Ricardo Francia providing accompaniment on the piano.
This eminent ensemble will be performing pieces drawn from popular operas such as Puccini’s La Boheme and Turandot and tickets for the event are available at €20 per person from the island’s six main centres of art, culture and tourism and can also be purchased online here.
