FLOWER POWER Monique Bastiaans Exhibition Blooms in Yaiza
The 2015 Lanzarote Bienal continues, with cultural offshoots sprouting up across the island. And one of the best new exhibitions to open this month is now underway at the Casa de la Cultura Benito Pérez Armas in Yaiza, where Dutch artist Monique Bastiaans is exhibiting a collection of her giant floral art installations, entitled Pleasure of the Flower.
Now based in Valencia this acclaimed sculptress has created numerous giant flower sculptures using materials that cross a number of different disciplines. And in doing so she combines contrasting textures and techniques to great effect, stretching the relationship between object and context, using fabrics, plastics and silicone to achieve striking forms.
Her exhibition is very much in keeping with the overall theme of the 2015 Bienal, which celebrates 50 years of the ongoing inter relationship between art and nature on the island, originally fostered of course by César Manrique.
The Casa de la Cultura Benito Pérez Armas is open from 08.00 to 15.30 and 16.00 to 19.00 from Monday to Friday and entrance to the exhibition is free of charge.
