GRAPE ESCAPE Wine Runners Pour Into La Geria
Drink in the unique scenery of Lanzarote´s bodega region this weekend - as the 2017 Wine Run wends it´s way through La Geria.
The Wine Run is now in it´s ninth year and this Sunday, June 18th, over 1900 'wine-runners' will be pouring into the area to compete across a number of different distances and categories.
Over the years the race has evolved into more of a Wine Walk than a run - with well over half the registered entrants choosing the far more sensible option of a gentle stroll through the fantastic scenery - all the better to enjoy a sample or two en route.
But there´s still a competitive edge for some - and little wonder when the winner can walk off with their body weight in wine for a year - as a 23.4km race sets off from the La Florida bodega at 09.00, with around 350 runners signed up.
As well as Lanzarote´s natural beauty and viticulture The Wine Run celebrates Lanzarote´s gastronomy too - so the event has a pronounced foodie feel. Wwith stalls representing some of the island´s best restaurants such as Los Aljbes and Que MUAC setting up in the picturesque village of Uga from 18.00 on Saturday the 17th. Alongside local cheese and wine producers - as a complementary celebration of local cuisine gets underway.
