It´s curtains up on Lanzarote´s 7th annual Film Festival Sampler today - featuring some of the best contemporary, cutting edge celluloid culled from all corners of the planet.

This cultural initiative is designed to take the current pulse of world cinema and features some of the most provocative and thought provoking works of the last year created by directors based in countries as diverse as the Dominican Republic and India. And is part of a wider project designed to broaden Lanzarote´s cultural offering and hence appeal to tourists.

The event gets underway tonight at Teatro de Tias with a screening of Werner Herzog´s comedy drama Even Dwarves Started Small - which was famously shot on location right here on Lanzarote and released back in 1970, kick starting ten days of film related events, including screenings, workshops and seminars.

Among the English language highlights are American director Travis Wilkerson´s film, Did You Wonder Who Fired The Gun, which is being screened at the El Almacen Culutral Centre in Arrecife tomorrow, November 24th at 21.00. As well as the highly topical American production Mar La Mar, which takes the US-Mexico border as its central theme, exploring the divides created by this largely imaginary line between the two communities it separates.
