Kiteboarding Contest Kicks Off Today
This weekend sees the first trials for the Canarian Kiteboarding Circuit, which will be taking place at the beach at Famara and in Playa Honda until Sunday 24th.
Kiteboarding has become an increasingly popular nautical sport during the last few years and Lanzarote is one of the best places to practice this daring activity. The new Canarian Kiteboarding Circuit will see competitors battling it out in two main categories of Freestyle and Waves.
The competition at Famara takes place today with a series of Wave trials, whilst the heats taking place on the beach at Playa Honda between Friday and Sunday will be for Freestyle performances.
In addition to the Kiteboarding action, there will also be numerous water based activities for spectators to participate in, such as jet skis, kayaking and stand up paddle. Numerous stalls selling sports wear will form the majority of the stalls in the Playa Honda market over the weekend as well.
Videos and photographs of the participants and the trials will be on display each day at Marilyn Lounge Bar, which is located just by the beach at Guacimeta in Playa Honda. Competitors are anticipated from each age group, including children and seniors and there are also separate categories for female riders.
The first trials of each day in the contest begin at 09.00 and the last is scheduled for 17.30, with a closing ceremony to award the trophies organised for 18.30 on Sunday 24th April.
