GARDENERS WORLD Explore Luis Villalba’s Garden In Conil
Lanzarote’s dry and windy climate can create challenging conditions for gardeners – but one man who knows how to master a microclimate is the locally based artist Luis Villalba, who has created an oasis in Conil, close to the island’s most popular resort of Puerto del Carmen.
German born Villalba studied fine arts in Hamburg before moving to Lanzarote many years ago. And over time he has lovingly created a beautiful garden that pays homage to the English school whilst also drawing inspiration from visits to various horticultural hotspots around Europe and the Canary Islands.
Villalba specializes in creating biotopes and micro climates within his garden that enables him to showcase a diversity of plants from around the world in conditions that approximate their natural environment – no mean feat on Lanzarote where the weather conditions can be very challenging for horticulturalists.
Luis Villalba’s garden is located in Calle camino de barranco de Tegoyo in Conil and is open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays from 10.00 to 18.00 and on Saturdays from 10.00 to 15.00.
